Americorps in need of reading and math tutors for Duluth schools

"About 40 percent of our Minnesota students are struggling with reading and math and then when we think about that summer slump as well so we are really needing that fantastic support from community members," said Brianne Benson, a recruiter for Minnesota Math & Reading Corps.
Americorps says their goal is to have kids prepared for reading by third grade and algebra ready by eighth grade.
Teachers emphasize that tutors are making a direct impact on students. Americorps is also preparing for virtual tutoring depending on school plans with COVID-19.
Tutors are being sought for three different levels of commitment: 35, 25 or 18 hours a week, beginning in August 2020.
Full-time tutors receive a stipend of $650 every two weeks, and can also earn an additional $4,336 for student loans or tuition. This award can also be gifted to a family member if the tutor is 55 or older.
Many tutors also qualify for additional benefits like free health insurance and childcare assistance. Anyone enthusiastic is encouraged to apply now at readingandmath.net or by calling 866-859-2825.
