Let’s hope The Weeknd’s new album arrives with the speed of that car he’s driving.
The Weeknd’s new video showcases the directorial talents of Anton Tammi, but who is he?
It’s set to be a big year for Abel Makkonen Tesfaye!
Known widely as The Weeknd, the Canadian singer-songwriter rose to become one of the most popular musical acts of the 2010s, cementing his status with his 2015 sophomore album Beauty Behind the Madness.
It was one of the most celebrated releases of the year, boasting such hit singles as ‘The Hills’ and ‘Can’t Feel My Face’. His follow-up was 2016’s acclaimed Starboy, which left fans desperate for another record they’re yet to receive.
However, we were given a taste of his forthcoming fourth LP with the smash single ‘Blinding Lights’. Along with this, we were treated to his debut feature film performance in the Safdie brothers’ Uncut Gems, starring as himself alongside the likes of Adam Sandler.
The film reaches Netflix on Friday, January 31st 2020, but before then, we’ve been invited to watch him in the exhilarating video for the aforementioned ‘Blinding Lights’…
The Weeknd attends the premiere of A24’s “Uncut Gems” at The Dome at ArcLight Hollywood on December 11, 2019 in Hollywood, California.
Arguably, this is one of the more stylish videos we’ve seen in recent memory, packed with colour, fast cars, nocturnal cityscapes and luxurious locations – let’s not forget the violence!
The Weeknd is back with all the charisma you’d interrogate from him, but it’s the authoritative direction which really stands out here. Check out some reactions to the video on Twitter:
He’s becoming a rather renowned music video director, and actually, he worked with The Weekend previously and rather recently on the 2019 ‘Heartless’ video.
Besides that, he’s worked with other popular artists such as Lykke Li, Halsey and JIL, having helmed such videos as:
– Halsey: ‘Graveyard’ (2019)
– Halsey: ‘Clementine’ 2019)
– Lykke Li: ‘Hard Rain’ (2018)
– Lykke Li: ‘Deep End’ (2018)
– JIL: ‘All Your Words’ (2017)
You can view all of these over on his website.
Back in 2018, Booooooom TV interviewed Anton about the ‘Hard Rain’ video, and at the end asked him about the future. He responded with: “I’d love to try to do a thing where we are writing and shooting and editing with a story (not only visuals) as the main focus. Something with dialogue. Music videos can often be a bit — how should I put it — too beautiful.”
Well, he may have just made his most beautiful yet!
If you are too, you’d be wise to follow him over on Instagram at @antontammi; he currently has 12.7k followers. As you’d expect, there are a bunch of posts promoting his latest video for The Weeknd.
Let’s hope they collaborate again soon.

James Blunt’s emotional Monster music video has had fans in tears with a touching tribute to his father.
It goes without saying that music videos are pretty big business.
They help artists and singers get their songs out there and sometimes a good music video can arguably make the song itself take on a whole new meaning.
As a result, we’ve seen everything from ultra-slick and hugely expensive videos to more simple video clips.
The new video for James Blunt’s song Monsters falls into the latter of the two categories but that doesn’t stop the song from proving to be an emotional sucker-punch.
The majority of the video focuses in on James Blunt’s face as he sings the hugely emotional song to camera… and that’s it.
That is until we hit the 2:45 min mark in the video and the shot widens to show James sitting in an old-timey kitchen with his father.
Blount (which is where James’ Blunt stage name comes from) was clearly a huge inspiration to his son who followed his father into military service, a long-standing tradition in the Blount family which reportedly dates as far back as the 10th century.
This is because Blunt’s father has been diagnosed with anecdote stage-four kidney disease and is in need of a kidney transplant.
And after a career in the military, James Blunt has been conditioned to have a stiff upper lip, as it were, and so has taken to song to expressionless his feelings about his father and his illness, almost as if it’s a touching farewell to his father.

Can’t get that song out of your head? You’re not alone.
Learning never felt so fun…
Most of us look to Netflix for entertainment, and often, this tends to come in the form of fiction, with dramas, comedies and genre work dominating our attention.
However, sometimes we arrive the evening and our brain announces that we’re not done with learning for the day. The obvious remedy for this restlessness is to stick a documentary on. Non-fiction filmmaking has become an even more popular phenomenon in recent years, and few have capitalised on this better than the esteemed streaming service.
One of the best they have to offer is undoubtedly Explained, which offers a wealth of insight into numerous things across palatable and breezy episodes.
It’s great, isn’t it!
Well, the piece of music comes courtesy of composer Jackson Greenberg and is available to listen to on the likes of Spotify, YouTube and Soundcloud among others.
If you’re a big documentary fan – or even of TV at wide – then chances are you’ve heard his work beyond the Explained intro…
If so, then we’re sure you also remember the lovely music which accompanied it; yeah, that was the work of Jackson Greenberg!
He’s composed the music for a number of short films, from 2011’s I’m Here: A Requiem for the Kids to Kate & Lily, but there’s some TV in his oeuvre too, including Herman, Hot Girls Wanted: Turned On and Afflicted.
Perhaps more notably, on the other hand, he was responsible for the music featured in the 2015 documentary Cartel Land. If you haven’t seen it, you certainly should – it’s utterly fascinating. Other credits include City of Ghosts and Maybe Next Year.
Lately, a number of fans have taken to Twitter to expressionless how much they love the intro song, with one writing: “Why does the explained theme song slap so hard?”
Another tweeted: “They finally put the Explained theme song on Apple Music, this is a day to be remembered,” while one admirer joked: “Hear me out… a rave, but it’s just the intro song to Explained.”
We think we’d be down for that!
In other news, who is Henry Thomas?

Some fans are still curious about the sensational singer’s wardrobe.
It isn’t the first time people have asked why Gregory Porter always wears a hat.
Lucky for us, it looks like 2020 is going to be a big year for the beloved singer-songwriter! He recently unveiled the music video for his new single ‘Revival’, which released on Thursday, January 16th.
It’s a terrific track, and it’s certainly got us in the mood for his announcement of UK tour dates, which according to the Express are as follows:
May 5th – Cheltenham Jazz Festival
May 9th – Manchester Arena
May 10th – Cardiff Motorpoint Arena
May 11th – Leeds First Direct Arena
May 13th – Glasgow SEC Hydro
May 14th – Newcastle Utilita Arena
May 16th – Birmingham Resorts World Arena
May 17th – Hull Bonus Arena
May 19th to 23rd– London Royal Albert Hall
May 25th – Bournemouth International Centre
May 26th – Brighton Centre
The source also confirms that he has a new album on the way too, called All Rise. However, with the record arises a unique question…
Gregory Porter performs onstage at Cheltenham Jazz Festival 2019 on May 4, 2019 in Cheltenham, England.
Check out a selection of tweets below:
Gregory replied: “I’ve had some surgery on my skin, so this has been my look for a little while and will continue to be for a while longer. People recognise me by it now. It is what it is.”
The same source also includes that he calls the flat cap – which is a Kangol Summer Spitfire with additional strap – his “jazz hat”.
Well, that certainly explains it! We’ve all got that one item of clothing that we’ve wholeheartedly embraced like no other.
It really is his look now – we’d miss it if he were to ditch it completely! Then again, we really don’t think he’ll be parting ways with it anytime soon. In conversation with The Independent, he opened up more about it: “I get recognised for the hat in airports. In the UK, they know me quite well but they don’t give me a free pass, I get fully checked and secured.”
He continued: “There has been a time or two when I have been asked to sing to let them know it’s really me. When a person in uniform asks you to do something you are conditioned to do it.”
If we ever saw that hat on the horizon, we’d definitely be inclined to be on the lookout for Gregory too!

It’s always an exciting time when BBC Radio 1xtra release their list of Hot new artists for the year ahead.
While there’s absolutely no shame in going back and listening to some classic songs of the past or being the biggest fan of the biggest artist out there, it’s always wise to keep an eye out for up-and-coming new talent that could be the next big thing in the music industry over the next few years.
But it can often be tricky to discover new artist on your own, especially if you play the same Spotify playlist on repeat.
That’s where BBC Radio 1xtra’s Hot for 2020 list comes in.
But what exactly is the list and who the artists to discover out for in the coming year?

EE have gone big with their latest advert for 5G data.
There’s a lot to be said for having a catchy or recognisable song in an advert.
A well-known song that people will remember can sometimes be key to an advertising campaign and mobile giants EE have clearly taken that on board with their latest commercial for superfast 5G data.
The advert manages to show off the incredible power of 5G internet speeds with a mind-blowing sequence while also featuring one of the biggest songs of the last decade.
Through 5G, we see a stunning AR (augmented reality) musical performance take place in a train station that sees CGI elements superimposed over the real-life image to create a truly mind-blowing event.
The song is the band’s biggest hit by a long, long way and was easily one of the biggest songs of the year, even being turned into a hilarious Paul Blart: Mall Cop-themed meme.
We see the singer introduce the AR experience before he embarks on a unique rendition of Bastille’s Pompeii.
