This Makeup Artist's Extreme Close-Up Tutorials Are So Satisfying to Watch

When you're inundated with content almost 24 hours a day, seven days a week, it's rare to see something that makes you completely stop and peer mid-scroll. But that's exactly what user Sibylle (@sibyllete) does to us with her makeup videos — over and over again. The Paris-based influencer captures her brightly colored and intricate makeup style from an extreme close-up angle. The result? Hyper-detailed videos of glosses, powders, and creams that are a little bit creepy-looking but entirely mesmerizing.

Sibylle's video style, as she tells Allure, is inspired by other close-up makeup videos from TikTok. "I love seeing colors so bright and so close, and I thought, why not try it myself?" she says. "And that is how I developed my own style." Her set-up for recording her high-definition shots is rather simple: an iPhone with a detachable macro lens that she bought on Amazon. "I film freehand, meaning that I hold the phone in one hand and I apply makeup with the other," she says. And if she's recording a full makeup look, her videos can take up to two hours to film.

Sibylle doesn't film videos this way just because it looks interesting. To her, that close-up angle is a statement about self-acceptance. "I have psoriasis, which is an incurable skin disease, and for a long time my skin was my nightmare," she recalls. "But creating this type of content allowed me to own my skin."

And her viewers are enjoying the sincere same type of self-love, thanks to her videos. "I get messages every day from mostly women telling me that my videos made them feel better about themselves and their skin," Sibylle says. "Because I show every detail of my own skin, they feel more confident about theirs, and I really like that thought."

So next time you're doing your own makeup and cringe because of a pimple or visible pores or fine lines, pop on one of Sibylle's videos and revel in the fact that your skin doesn't define you. Or, in her own words: "Whether it's acne, scars, zits — everyone's skin is beautiful."
